Es un espacio dedicado a las artes vivas, en donde se originan, conciben y producen proyectos de creación, discusión y exhibición en torno a la performance, a la acción y a la relación artístico-creativa con el cuerpo como objeto.
Desde sus inicios, La Juan Gallery, ha incidido en los márgenes de las artes visuales, las artes escénicas, la danza y la moda de una forma que le ha permitido ir más allá de una simple fusión de todas estas disciplinas. La Juan ha conseguido legitimar en la escena galerística de Madrid la presencia de la Performance o Arte vivo como categoría propia, y esto es precisamente lo que más ha definido la identidad de La Juan Gallery en estos seis años.
En La Juan Gallery, a través de sus propuestas, se fomenta la participación del espectador, se cuestionan las bases sobre las que se sustenta el mercado del arte hoy y, sobre todo, se ofrece un lugar que sirve de impulso para que nuevos autores, artistas vinculados al arte de acción, puedan crear, pero también encontrar un público cada vez más diverso y menos sectorizado.
La Juan Gallery es un espacio intergeneracional, transversal y libre de sectarismos donde tiene cabida gente de todas las edades, culturas y backgrounds, algo fundamental para generar en estos encuentros un intercambio de experiencias y conocimientos, así como para acercar a las distintas generaciones de artistas.
La Juan Gallery is a space devoted to Performance Art where we originate, nurture and showcase the creations of both completely new and also world-class established and talented artists. We produce extraordinary experiences with a strong focus on thought-provoking actions, performances and other displays of the living arts that propose a debate around the artistic and creative relation with the body as an object.
Aiming to become a creative Performance hub for the region, La Juan Gallery opened its doors in Madrid in 2015. Since then, the space has come into play right in the margins of visual arts, scenic arts, dance and fashion in a way that allows us to go much further than to the simple concept of fusion. La Juan Gallery has gain its position in the artistic arena of Madrid standing as the sole gallery exhibiting only living arts, adding to the legitimation of Performance Art as a category of its own. This is definitely, what more accurately defines the Gallery and its professional path and identity.
Our projects also push the boundaries of art by promoting participation and critical spectatorship to question the ideas at the basis of the current art market. What is it that is sold at a gallery that shows living art, anyway?
La Juan Gallery is not only a gallery. Yes, we are part of the art market, but we identify more with the old concept of souk or bazaar, so linked to the still traceable cultural heritage of 800 years of Arab and Muslim presence in Spain. The central idea of a souk is not only selling but also the exchange, the conversation, the collaboration, the inter-creation, the artisans having their ateliers in the back room and discussing with each other.
At La Juan, young artists, students and trend creators are a major part of our public. That way and in that souk like atmosphere, La Juan becomes a space that unlocks potential among the members of Madrid’s next generation of creative talent. We offer support to independent artists and act as a catalyst for the birth of a new public in the field of Performance Art. A public of all backgrounds, ages and origins, intergenerational and diverse.
Our goal is to show this public the creations of the generations of artists that have inhabited Madrid together with the ones that are now shaping the future ideas that make art what art is.
